Cristina’s mental map of Rotterdam at Work • Detroit Gallery

9 September – 7 October 2011

Cristina Ampatzidou was invited to participate to Topophilia, an art exhibition in Detroit, USA with her work “Urban Laces – Rotterdam”.

“Human beings have persistently searched for the ideal environment… seeking for a point of equilibrium that is not of this world.” – Yi-Fu Tuan
This exhibition proposes explorations on the theme of Topophilia, a term coined by geographer Yi-Fu Tuan, defined as the “emotional connections between physical environment and human beings.” Topophilia was curated by Kayla Romberger and Alisha Wessler.

19:00-21:00 Dinner
21:00-24:00 Celebration – Music by Dagmar dj

We see this as an opportunity to discuss the development of our project and thank the people who supported Mental Charlois.

Mental Charlois at the Charlois Municipality

 17 September 2010

Mental Charlois will run a workshop with the people working for the Municipality of Charlois. The workshop will take place at the municipality building at Zuidplein, the 17th of September 2010. We thought that people working for Charlois would be the best example of participation to a project that addresses the same issues they are woking on!

Mental Charlois in Kunstweekend Charlois

Mental Charlois will run two workshops in the framework of the Kunstweekend Charlois, this Saturday the 29th of May at the Wijkgebouw, at Clemenstraat 111, room R64 on the first floor. Parents and children are more than welcome to share their mental maps and real routes with us!

Join us from 12:00 – 14:00 and from 14:00-16:00

The exhibition of the results of the first Mental Charlois for 2010 will take place in the Veldacademie, at Grondherendijk 13, in Oud Charlois.

Mental Charlois in Hugo de Grootschool

12 March 2010 

We were asked to collaborate with the Historisch Museum of Rotterdam [www.historischmuseumrotterdam.nl] in their research project “The town as Muse” about the living history of the city.

Students of the Hugo de Grootschool in Charlois, lead by their teacher Lidwine Loorbach, will participate in a Mental Charlois workshop, to reveal where the young generation of Charlois hangs out and which spatial elements of their neighborhoud they value more.

Mental Charlois in Art Rotterdam South Tour

6 February 2010 

Mental Charlois held a mini workshop in the framework of the Art-Plaats presentation [www.art-plaats.nl] for the Art Rotterdam south tour. Visitors were asked to write down or draw a small story based on their interpretation of people’s mental maps.

The results have been very interesting and sometimes very funny!
